NiMH in NEV would make them real EVs
Neighborhood EVs are limited to 25 mph, but the batteries are easily accessible and cheap lead-acid.
NEV dealers don't even know about the NiMH batteries, controlled by Chevron oil, that would allow NEV to go twice as far, and last decades.

ECarCo 2: why the batteries don't exist
In 1994, GM, under the guise of using Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries, bought control of the NiMH patent rights. But GM refused to use the batteries until forced to admit they existed by the 1997 release of the HondaEV and RAV4-EV. GM stonewalled until Dec., 1999. But on Oct. 10, 2000, GM threw away this control by selling it to Texaco.

Never go take car shots when the dealer is open. I actually thought the dealer was closed, but I was in the middle of shooting this sweet Celica when they swarmed over. I made clear to the first guy that I was not interested in this car: My car is better. Do you disagree? He gave up. But then I tried to sell it to my sister - I don't have a sister :)
...nevertheless the shots are not horrible and I like this yellow corner of the car. I drooled over these Celicas in undergrad...they handle like a dream and have sharp styling, but have a blindspot the size of a football field.
