Arc de Triomf, Bucharest, Romania

This is the Arc de Triomf in Bucharest, Romania. It is about 800 meters from the Aviatorilor Metrou station. Passing by are several Dacia cars including the Dacia 1300 and 1310, but very few Oltcits - rebadged Citroen Visa hatchbacks (which I did see in the eastern part of Bucharest).

In 1985 I made a vacation trip to Romania. A very beautiful country, but our roundtrip was planned from A to Z by the Romanian state travel agency, so there were no surprises either for us or for them. What struck us most was the poverty of the people and the shabby appearance of everything: roads, houses, cities, you name it. But we must gave the Romanians credit that all monasteries and castles we were expected to visit - including Count Dracula's castle in Transsylvania - were beautifully restored.
After the one week rountrip we spent another week in a hotel at the Black Sea, and that week is best forgotten. During that week western popmusic was suddenly banned, so we were entertained by Romainan folk music everywhere we went, including in the hotel bar where every day we were waiting for a shipment of Pepsi - otherwise we had to be satisfied with carot juice. Or Heineken, but that didn't came chepa of course Oh yes, did I tell you it rained most of the time during our week on the Black Sea beach?

This was our means of transportation. You name it...
